CAAGS leadership has led to the development of major conferences and the mentoring of numerous African American groups interested in forming genealogical societies. In 1995, PBS featured CAAGS in their Ancestors Series episode on African American Research.
Today, CAAGS has a diverse membership of approximately 80 members researching almost every state as well as Africa, the Carribean, and Europe. Research tours have been sponsored to Africa, Salt Lake City, and the National Archives (both regional and national). Members are sought as presenters/speakers for local and national genealogical groups and organizations.
